About Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny, sterile needles to create micropunctures in the skin’s surface to trigger the body’s natural healing response. This treatment is highly versatile and can improve a wide range of skin concerns and conditions, including:

  • Acne Scarring
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Uneven Skin Tone/Texture
  • Wrinkles
  • Pigmentation Irregularities
  • Stretch Marks (1)

Benefits

Microneedling offers several notable benefits, which is why it has become such a popular choice for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. These include:

  • Elevated Collagen Levels: This treatment stimulates the production of collagen, improving the overall elasticity, health, and appearance of the skin.
  • Enhanced Product Absorption: After microneedling, skincare products can penetrate the skin more deeply, maximizing their effectiveness.
  • Minimal Recovery Time: There is little to no downtime associated with microneedling, allowing you to return to your daily routine immediately.
  • Versatile Treatment: Our specialist can perform microneedling treatments to address a wide range of skin concerns and conditions.

Candidates

Candidates for microneedling typically include most patients seeking a non-surgical treatment to help them enhance the firmness, health, and appearance of their skin. Microneedling is considered safe for most skin types and tones. However, we do not recommend microneedling for patients with active acne breakouts, active infections, warts, chronic eczema, or severe psoriasis. (1) Anyone interested in microneedling should be in good general health and hold realistic expectations regarding the results of this treatment.

Personal Consultation

During a personal consultation, one of our specialists will meet with you to explain what microneedling is and how it can help you enhance your skin’s health and appearance. They will ask you about your medical history, current skincare routine, concerns, and treatment goals, as well as evaluate your skin. They will then use these details to determine your candidacy and craft your treatment plan.

To schedule this consultation and receive your tailored treatment plan, please contact us online or call (213) 341-2909.

Preparation

Your specialist may provide a set of instructions to help you prepare for your microneedling session. These instructions may vary between patients, but following them closely will ensure the best possible results.

For example, your specialist may instruct you to:

  • Refrain from taking certain medications or supplements containing blood-thinning properties.
  • Modify your skincare routine to avoid products that can affect your skin’s natural barrier, such as chemical peels, retinoids, retinols, and exfoliants.
  • On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean skin that is free of any makeup or skincare products.

Procedure

Microneedling typically takes just 15 to 20 minutes to perform. When you arrive for your procedure, we will cleanse and sanitize your skin in a private treatment room. We may also apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area to minimize any potential discomfort.

After your specialist prepares the treatment area and makes sure you are comfortable, they will begin the treatment. They will use a small handheld device fashioned with several rows of fine needles. As they pass the device over the treatment area, the needles will create micropunctures on the skin’s surface. They will repeat this motion until the area is evenly treated. (2) Afterward, the specialist can apply nourishing serums to enhance your results.

Recovery

Microneedling has little to no recovery time, which means you will be free to return to your daily routine after your appointment. As your skin heals, it is common to experience redness, mild sensitivity, or swelling. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own within several days.

During this time, you will need to:

  • Avoid excessive or direct sun exposure and use sun protection whenever possible.
  • Refrain from using harsh or acidic skincare products for at least one week.
  • Avoid wearing makeup for 24-48 hours.

Your specialist will provide more detailed recovery instructions during your personal consultation.

Results

The results of microneedling are gradual, which means that you will be able to see your skin continuously improve as your collagen levels increase. Over time, you will be able to notice brighter and smoother skin as any facial scarring, pigmentation concerns, and premature signs of aging soften and reduce. Your skin will look healthier and feel more elastic.

The results of microneedling can last several months to years, depending on your skin type, the conditions you target, and the depth of your treatment. (3) While many patients see significant improvements after just one appointment, others benefit from multiple treatment sessions to achieve their desired appearance.

Corresponding Procedures

IPL/BBL Photofacial

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy and BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy treatments can reduce the appearance of redness and dark spots. These treatments deliver intense pulses of light into the skin, which are absorbed as thermal energy. By heating the underlying layers of tissue, these treatments result in an increased production of collagen and healthier, clearer, and firmer skin. Both IPL and BBL can address several parts of the body, including the face, neck, hands, and chest, and they can foster deep, effective rejuvenation alongside microneedling.

PRP

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is often combined with microneedling treatments. PRP is made from the patient’s own blood; the specialist takes a sample of blood from the arm, similar to a standard blood draw. The blood will then go through a process of separation so that the most beneficial components are isolated. After the PRP serum is ready, your specialist can apply it topically after your microneedling session so that it is deeply absorbed into the skin. PRP can enhance overall results thanks to its regenerative properties; patients often report a more youthful, hydrated look.

Total Face Rejuvenation Bundle

Our Total Face Rejuvenation Bundle combines three rejuvenating treatments: BTL technology, which gently tightens and lifts using radiofrequency and ultrasound energy; microneedling, which stimulates collagen production through the skin’s natural healing process to enhance radiance and texture; and PRP, which boosts cellular repair and collagen renewal. These treatments work together to improve firmness, smoothness, and brightness—all for $699 instead of $1400!
